This is a lovely set of 12 Royal Doulton dessert plates decorated with a combination of subtle transfer outlines and then hand painted with polychrome enamels. The plates depict different English castle scenes including Arundel Castle, Dryburgh Abbey and Harlech Castle, labeled on the reverse and framed by a tall dramatic tree, either to the right or left of center. The plates are both decorative and useful and the unusual square shape is an added bonus. Ca. 1929.
